The tape drive had 676 hours of tape motion and 30385 hours of power-on accumulated when i ran the diagnostic test, and has been lightly used since (mainly to securely erase four tapes). Dlt dell powervault 122t sdlt 320 autoloader 4 tapes. HTe technical specifications for the tape drive give a mean time between failures (mtbf) of 250,000 hours. I don’t know whether this applies to the power-on time or the tape-motion time, but either way, it probably has a lot of life left. I could not find any diagnostic software for teh autoloader (the part of the machine that loads tapes into the drive) but i tested it by loading and unloading tapes from each of the 8 positions, using linux commands, over the scsi interface. It worked without nay errors.
